Common

Similar species: Nematopogon schwarziellus is smaller (7 to 8mm forewing) and Nematopogon metaxella is smaller (6 to 8mm) with a broader forewing.

Forewing: 8 to 10mm

Habitats: Woodland, mature hedgerows, sheltered scrub.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed. It flies in late afternoon sunshine and at dusk. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded. In its final instars it feeds from a flat case made of leaf fragments on dead leaves on the ground.
