Similar species:

Forewing: 3 to 4mm

Habitats: Where birch is present.

Habits: The moth flies around sapling birch in the late afternoon. It occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva lives in a gallery mine on Downy Birch or sometimes Silver Birch. The mine encircles much of the leaf and ends in a whitish blotch. The full-fed larva cuts an oval case and drops to the ground where it overwinters before pupating in the case in April.
