Forewing: 5 to 7mm
Habitats: Marshes, fens, mosses and bogs.
Habits: The moth sits on the heads of the foodplant in the day and flies in sunshine.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the seeds of Common Cottongrass and Hare’s-tail Cottongrass. The seed-head is spun to adjacent vegetation so that it keeps standing during the winter. Seed-heads that are inhabited by larvae or pupae are still intact in the spring.
