Lyonetiidae
21.002 Blackthorn Blister Moth Lyonetia prunifoliella (Hübner, 1796)
pRDB1
Similar species:
Forewing: 4.5 to 5mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland, woodland rides and margins, hedgerows and gardens.
Habits:
Foodplant: The larva mines the leaves of Blackthorn (where it is broader than the narrow mine of Lyonetia clerkella), apples, Japanese Quince, Blue-fruited Cotoneaster, other cotoneasters, Korean Cherry or birches. The mine abruptly widens into a full depth blotch, often against the leaf margin. The larva may leave the mine and start a new one, sometimes on a new leaf. On apple the larvae prefers the leaves of the highest fresh shoots. Pupation takes place in a sparse cocoon on the underside of a leaf and suspended by silk threads.
