Similar species:
Forewing: 4.5 to 5.5mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The early stages are not well recorded in Britain. On the European mainland the larva feeds from slight silk galleries under the decaying bark of a variety of trees including larch and probably elms, apple, Sycamore and limes. The larval foodplants have not been fully distinguished from Denisia augustella. It pupates in a frass covered cocoon in the larval feeding place.
