28.012 Dingy Concealer Borkhausenia fuscescens (Haworth, 1828)

Common

Similar species: Hofmannophila pseudospretella is larger (7.5 to 12mm).

Forewing: 3.5 to 5.5mm

Habitats: Around houses, farm buildings and wherever its larval foods are available.

Habits: The moth flies from late evening through dusk and into the night. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva lives in a frass covered silk tube attached to leaves in leaf litter, where it feeds on the decaying leaves of many species of trees and other plants, and also on decaying conifer wood and birds' nest detritus. Pupation takes place within the larval spinning in a small white cocoon.
