32.016 Black-spot Buff Agonopterix propinquella (Treitschke, 1835)

Local

Similar species:

Forewing: 7.5 to 9mm

Habitats: Dry grassland, embankments, verges, downland and scrub.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva mines a short, full depth gallery causing a brown discolouration on a leaf of Spear Thistle or Creeping Thistle. In the later instars it continues to feed from a spinning along the underside of the midrib, where pale brown 'windows' are eaten in the leaf. On the European mainland it is also recorded as feeding on other thistles, burdock, knapweeds and Saw-wort. It pupates in the feeding place, in the earth or in the leaf litter.
