35.045 Dark-spotted Moss-moth Bryotropha basaltinella (Zeller, 1839)
Notable A
Similar species:
Forewing: 5 to 5.5mm
Habitats: Houses, farm buildings and adjacent walls.
Habits: The moth occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds from a dense open ended silk tube in a moss on roofs and walls. It is known to feed on Great Hairy Screw-moss Syntrichia ruralis, and may possibly also feed on Wall Screw-moss Tortula muralis, but this needs confirmation. It pupates within a cocoon spun using moss.
