Habitats: Woodland margins, scrub, hedgerows, verges, vegetated sand-dunes and waste ground.
Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed from the foodplant. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in the flower-heads of Greater Burdock or Lesser Burdock, overwintering in a chamber in the base of the seed-head, where it pupates in a cocoon in early May.
