Similar species:

Forewing: 5.5 to 6.5mm

Habitats: The lower slopes of mountain moorland and glens with open woodland.

Habits: The moth flies in the evening.

Foodplant: The young larva lives until the following spring in a frass-filled, contorted gallery on Bearberry. It then makes an oval leaf case and feeds through the spring before it aestivates during the summer and then feeds again from August. The final case which looks like a dried leaflet, is made during the following April and is about 8mm long, m.o. at a 45° angle. It then feeds for a while before pupating fixed to the upper surface of a leaf.
