37.105 Campion Case-bearer Coleophora nutantella Mühlig & Frey, 1857
Notable A
Similar species:
Forewing: 6.5 to 9mm
Habitats: Breckland and dry grassland.
Habits: The moth can be disturbed in the day. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds internally on the seeds within the seed-capsules of Bladder Campion and Nottingham Catchfly. In the final instar it constructs a silk case. The white silk case is later attached to the side of other seed-capsules, where it feeds. The fully formed ochreous-white silk case is tubular and stout and covered in granular bits of seed husk. It is 8mm long, m.o. at a 40° angle. It overwinters from early September attached to vegetation away from the foodplant and in May probably pupates there.
