Similar species: The long band of white on the leading edge of the forewing in the picture is not typical. This area is usually a similar width to that of the tornal region.

Habitats: Boggy heaths and upland moors.
Habits: The moth flies in the late afternoon.
Foodplant: The early stages in Britain have not been properly recorded. The larva is said to be yellow-grey and feed on sedges in Britain and pupate attached with a silk girdle.
On the European mainland it has been recorded feeding on Greater Pond-sedge and Hare's-tail Cottongrass.
