Similar species: Aethes francillana has narrower more oblique crossbands. Be aware there are other similar European Aethes spp. that could appear in times of migrant activity.
Forewing: 6.5 to 8mm
Habitats: Field margins, road verges, rough ground near the coast and open woodland.
Habits: It flies from late evening and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The gregarious larva feeds on the seeds of Hemlock and Alexanders. It bores into the upper part of the stem to overwinter, then pupates there in late April.
