Similar species:

Forewing: 6.5 to 9.5mm

Habitats: Wasteground, quarries, arable field margins, parkland, embankments, calcareous grassland, vegetated shingle and sand-dunes.

Habits: The moth flies in the late evening and later comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds in a flower-head of Perennial Sowthistle, feeding on the unripe seeds. On the European mainland it is also recorded on Bristly Ox-tongue. The full-fed larva overwinters from September in a cocoon in the soil, where it pupates in May.
