Habitats: Damp meadows, river-banks, stream margins, damp open woodland and gardens.

Habits: The moth rests low down on the leaves and stems of the foodplant. It has a short flight period in the late afternoon and another at sunset on warm evenings. It occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds in silk lined tunnels in the roots and the crown of Butterbur, occasionally Giant Butterbur and possibly Winter Heliotrope. It pupates in a silk cocoon just below the soil surface near the roots.
