Habitats: Calcareous grassland, coastal grassland, rough ground and gardens.

Habits: The moth flies in afternoon sunshine and towards sunset. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds (sometimes gregariously) in the rootstock of Yarrow or Tansy. It pupates in the feeding place.
