49.348 Liquorice Piercer Grapholita pallifrontana Zeller, 1845
pRDB3
Similar species: Grapholita internana
Forewing: 4.5 to 5.5mm
Habitats: Rough calcareous grassland and margins of scrub. Sometimes other grassland if the foodplant is present.
Habits: Both sexes fly over the foodplant in afternoon sunshine.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in the pods of Wild Licorice, at first eating the inside of the pod, then later feeding on the ripening seeds. It will move to other pods. In August the full-fed larva overwinters in a cocoon in the feeding place, where it also pupates in April.
