Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: M 5 to 7mm, F 9 to 11mm
Habitats: Oak and Beech woodland.
Habits: The moth flies around the tops of trees in hot, sunny weather. It comes to light on warm nights.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the leaves of Pendunculate Oak, Sessile Oak or Beech. It has at least once been recorded on a species of poplar. The full-fed larva overwinters in a cocoon attached to a leaf or twig.
