Similar species:

Forewing: 12 to 15mm

Habitats: Heathland with conifers, conifer plantations and gardens.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds in the shoots of Scots Pine and Monterey Pine, producing lots of frass, but resin is not released. It may also inhabit the cones of Norway Spruce, Noble Fir, Douglas Fir and European Larch, in which case it may pupate in the autumn and produce adults that year or overwinter full-fed in the cone and pupate in late April.
