Habitats: Coastal sand-dunes and vegetated shingle, sandy heathland and Breckland.
Habits: The moth can be disturbed from rest at the base of its foodplants during the day. It is is nocturnal and rests openly on sand-dune grasses at night. It also comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva lives in a silk-lined tube amongst the roots and stem base of Marram, Sheeps's-fescue and Grey Hair-grass. It pupates in a cocoon in the sand at the base of the foodplant.
