Similar species:

Forewing: M 10.5 to 11.5mm, F 13 to 14mm

Habitats: Pond and lake margins, marshland, rhynes and other drainage ditches, slow flowing canals and rivers.

Habits: The male is easily disturbed from aquatic vegetation during the day. Both sexes fly at night and come to light. Females are often recorded at light a long way from likely breeding sites.

Foodplant: The larva spins the leaves of water plants and lives in an open web. It feeds on pondweeds, Canadian Waterweed, Hornwort and other water palnts. It pupates in a large pinkish cocoon attached to a plant near the water surface.
