Habitats: Open woodland, scrub, hedgerows, heathland, moorland and gardens.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds mainly on Hawthorn, Blackthorn and birches growing in the sun. It also feeds on Hazel, Crab Apple, sallows, Bramble, oaks, heather, Bell Heather, Bilberry and other deciduous shrubs and trees. It pupates in a cocoon in the leaf litter.
