Similar species: The female Oak Eggar Lasiocampa quercus quercus is similar to Pale Grass Eggar but larger with a broader outer cross band and the inner band absent.
Forewing: M 21 to 24mm, F 25 to 30mm
Habitats: Sparsely vegetated sand-dunes, vegetated shingle, sea-cliffs and inland heathland.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds at night on Tree Lupin, False Oat-grass, Marram, Bramble, Creeping Willow, Kidney Vetch, Common Bird's-foot Trefoil, Red Clover, Purple Clover, Thrift and Spiny Restharrow. The dominant foodplant varies for each population. It pupates in a tough brown cocoon attached to vegetation close to the soil.
