Habitats: Damp grassland, marshes, fens, ditches, river-banks, boggy heathland, lowland moorland, scrub, gardens, woodland rides and clearings.
Habits: The moth comes to light, but the female only occasionally.
Foodplant: The larva feeds nocturnally on Cock's-foot, Common Couch, Common Reed, Wood Small-reed, Reed Canary-grass and a variety of other broad-leaved grasses and sedges. The elongated papery cocoon is usually formed low along a grass stem.
