Geometridae
70.020 Sub-angled Wave Scopula nigropunctata (Hufnagel, 1767)
RDB
Similar species: The smaller (11 to 13mm) Rosy Wave Scopula emutaria has a central bar that stretches from the middle of the trailing edge of the forewing towards the apex of the wing, rather than curving towards the leading edge.
Forewing: 14 to 16mm
Habitats: Scrubby grassland on chalk cliffs and coastal slopes, open woodland rides and clearings.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from vegetation on warm days. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva probably feeds on Traveller's-joy, as adults have been beaten from this plant and larvae reared on it. In captivity it accepts Smooth Tare, other legumes, Tormentil and Dandelion. Based on captive observations, it is thought to pupate between leaves and in the soil.
