Similar species: Unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.

Forewing: 11 to 14mm

Habitats: Deciduous woodland, scrub and mature hedgerows.

Habits: The moth can occasionally be found on tree trunks or disturbed from vegetation during the day. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on both large trees and saplings of Field Maple. In captivity it accepts Sycamore and other Acer species. It pupates attached to a leaf by a silk girdle or amongst moss.
