Similar species: Satin Wave Idaea subsericeata is only superficially similar as it is not usually as pure white and the grey cross-lines are less pronounced although still reasonably distinct. It also lacks the closely parallel lines running across the centre of the forewing.
Forewing: 9 to 11mm
Habitats: Mature deciduous woodland, overgrown hazel coppice.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day. It flies from sunset and comes sparingly to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Hazel, Hornbeam and sometimes birches and wild roses. It pupates in the leaf litter.
