Similar species: Welsh Wave Venusia cambrica is larger (13 to 15mm), with darker edging to the cross-band and more significant dark spikes on the outer edge of the band.
Forewing: 11 to 13mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland, mixed woodland, scrub, water margins, heathland, chalk and sandstone slopes, vegetated shingle and sea-cliffs.
Habits: The moth rests on tree trunks and branches during the day and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on birches, Alder, sallows, Sweet Chestnut and Sycamore. It has been associated with Hazel and Blackthorn. It pupates in the leaf litter.
