Similar species: Females are usually heavily banded, whereas males have plumed antennae, narrower less distinct bands or the bands may be absent except at the leading edge. It is unlikely to be mistaken for other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 11 to 13mm
Habitats: Open Scot's Pine and birch woodland with bilberry ground cover and sometimes more open areas.
Habits: The moth flies in sunny weather from late morning until late afternoon. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Bilberry and possibly Cowberry. It pupates in loose soil.
