Similar species: August Thorn Ennomos quercinaria differs in that the leading edge end of the inner cross-line is more curved and clearly defined. The outer cross-line has a kink just before it reaches the leading edge and the lower part of the legs are white or dirty white.
Forewing: 17 to 21mm
Habitats: Woodland, parkland and gardens.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Pedunculate Oak, other oaks, Downy Birch, Silver Birch, Beech and limes. It pupates between spun leaves.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Hornbeam, elms, pear and poplars.
