Similar species: The broadly feathered antennae of the male and the thinly scaled wings of both sexes of this moth make it unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 16 to 19mm
Habitats: Calcareous deciduous woodland and mature hedgerows.
Habits: The moth comes to light, males early in the evening, females later and less often.
Foodplant: The moth feeds on Field Maple and sometimes Sycamore. It pupates in a hard cocoon spun in the leaf litter.
On the European mainland it has also occasionally been recorded feeding on birches, willows and cherry.
