Similar species: The orange form of Buff Footman Eilema depressa has slightly longer (15 to 17mm), more parallel wings which are greyer with an orange border.
Forewing: 13 to 16mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland, Blackthorn scrub and gardens.
Habits: The moth flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on algae and lichens on the branches and trunks of oaks, Beech and Blackthorn. It pupates in a flimsy cocoon amongst lichens.
