Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 13 to 14mm
Habitats: Reed-beds, areas of sedge, fens, bogs, open carr, marshland and the margins of ditches.
Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed in the day. It flies from dusk and can be found at rest on vegetation after dark. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Hairy Wood-rush, Field Wood-rush and Wood Sedge, feeding inside the stems, although it also eats the leaves. It pupates in a cocoon in the leaf litter.
