Immigrant

Similar species: Ni Moth Trichoplusia ni lacks the coloured tear drop shaped marking about half way along the outer edge of the forewing. Scarce Silver Y Syngrapha interrogationis has a variable silver marking in the forewing that may be whole or in two parts, but the outer solid part is usually round rather than a long outward pointing oval.

Forewing: 15 to 18mm

Habitats: In southern Europe and Africa it in habits rocky hillsides, arable land and herb-rich areas in a variety of habitats.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. In Madeira the larva has been recorded on nettles. In Africa it is known to be polyphagous on herbaceous plants in the families Solanaceae, Fabaceae, Asteraceae and others including nettles, sages, primroses, crane's-bills, mulleins, mallows, Hollyhock, Potato, Tobacco and other plants.
