Similar species: Marbled Clover Heliothis viriplaca lacks the basal streak (or shoulder stripe) and has a less oblique central cross band.
Forewing: 13 to 17mm
Habitats: Damp, acid heathland.
Habits: The moth flies in sunshine nectaring at Heather and heath flowers. It also comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds at night on the flowers and seed-heads of Cross-leaved Heath, Heather and Bog Asphodel. It pupates in a flimsy cocoon in the leaf litter or in loose soil.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Reedmace and Common Reed.
