Similar species: The background colour varies from pale grey-brown to dark red-brown, but the triangular resting position, oblique, black-edged, white outer central cross-line and the dark blotch on the leading edge between the oval and the kidney mark separates this moth from other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 10 to 13mm
Habitats: In Madeira it inhabits herb-rich grassland with areas of Bracken.
Habits: A North American species, that has colonised the Azores, Madiera and the Canary Islands. There were British records at light in 2008 in Cornwall and 2015 in Somerset. One was found in packaging from North America in South Wales in 2007.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on wood sorrels. In Madeira it feeds on Bermuda Buttercup. It pupates in the leaf litter.
