Similar species: The paler immigrant ssp. of Conformist Lithophane furcifera need to have the genitalia checked to separate it from Softly's Shoulder-knot. Nonconformist Lithophane lamda has a longer central black bar running parallel with the trailing edge of the forewing and a larger inner pointing projection on the outer cross-line.
Forewing: 18 to 20mm
Habitats: In northern and eastern Europe it inhabits deciduous forest bogs, mixed forest and mountain forest.
Habits: The single British record was at actinic light in Hampstead, London on 21st September 2001.
Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. In northern Europe the larva feeds on Alder, birches and Hazel.
