Similar species: The "V" shaped inner central cross-line separates this moth from similar orange-yellow species.
Forewing: 17 to 20mm
Habitats: Mature birch woodland in upland and lowland areas, mature stands of birch on heathland.
Habits: The moth will feed at Heather flowers and comes to sugar and light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds nocturnally on the young leaves of mature trees of Silver Birch, Downy Birch and Aspen. It hides between spun young leaves during the day. It pupates in a cocoon under the soil.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Alder.
