Similar species: The pale form is distinctive, but there are dark brown forms that are superficially similar to Deep-brown Dart Aporophyla lueneburgensis .
Forewing: 14 to 17mm
Habitats: Calcareous coastal downland, sea-cliffs, coastal grassland, vegetated shingle and sand-dunes.
Habits: The moth visits Ivy blossom and sugar soon after dark. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds slowly through the winter on Sea Campion, Common Sorrel, Wood Sage and other herbaceous plants, Bramble and possibly grasses. It pupates under moss or under the soil.
On the European mainland it has been recorded feeding on meadow-grasses and sedges.
