Similar species: Although variable if care is taken this moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 15 to 19mm
Habitats: Coastal cliffs, vegetated shingle and rarely open woodland near the coast.
Habits: The moth nectars at Sea Campion from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva bores into the leaves and leaf axils of Rock Sea Spurrey, Sand Spurrey and Sea Campion and later into the lower stems and on down into the roots. In captivity it accepts Lettuce roots. It pupates in the root of the foodplant.
