Immigrant / Resident

Similar species: Clay Mythimna ferrago has an oval or streaked cream spot on the kidney mark and the area between the cross-lines is not usually much darker than the rest of the wing.

Forewing: 14 to 17mm

Habitats: Grasslands.

Habits: The moth visits the flowers of grasses after dark and is attracted to sugar and light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on Cock's-foot, Common Couch and other soft-bladed grasses. It pupates in a cocoon in the leaf litter, in moss or under loose soil.

On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Tor-grass, Purple Moor-grass, Wood Small-reed and possibly Goat Willow and Osier Willow.
