Similar species: The white "L" in the centre of the forewing is enough to identify this species.
Forewing: 15 to 16mm
Habitats: Rough coastal grassland, sea-cliffs, wasteground and gardens.
Habits: The moth visits over-ripe Blackberries, Ivy blossom, ragworts and other flowers. It is attracted to sugar and light.
Foodplant: The nocturnal larva feeds on Marram and probably Tall Fescue. In captivity it accepts Cock's-foot, Meadow Fescue, Annual Meadow-grass and other grasses.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on False Oat-grass, Tor-grass, Tall Fescue, Upright Brome, Timothy, Cock's-foot, Sheep's-fescue, Smooth Meadow-grass, Barren Brome, Common Couch, Wavy Hair-grass and others.
