Immigrant / possible resident

Similar species: Flame Shoulder Ochropleura plecta is a redder moth with a shorter, broader forewing and the black streak barely extends past the kidney mark.

Forewing: 13 to 16mm

Habitats: Downland and other coastal sites in Britain. A wide range of open habitats on the European mainland.

Habits: The moth is attracted to light.

Foodplant: In captivity the larva will feed on Bristly Ox-tongue, Dandelion, Primrose and Evening Primrose. It pupates under the soil.

On the European mainland the larva also feeds on Common Bird's-foot Trefoil, other trefoils, clovers, docks, Wood Sorrel, mulleins, heaths, meadow-grasses and probably other grasses and herbaceous plants.
