Similar species: Scarce Silver-lines Bena bicolorana can easily be separated by the rounded leading edge and outer edge to the forewing and only two narrow white cross-lines.

Forewing: 16 to 19mm

Habitats: Deciduous woodland and parkland.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on Pedunculate Oak, Sessile Oak, Beech, Hazel, Downy Birch, Silver Birch and sometimes Alder, Aspen, elms, Sweet Chestnut and other deciduous trees. It pupates in a tough, boat-shaped cocoon on the underside of a leaf.

On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Hornbeam and poplars.
