04.074 Norway Maple Dot Etainia sericopeza (Zeller, 1839)
Notable A
Similar species: Etainia louisella is very similar but feeds on Field Maple rather than Norway Maple. If both foodplants are present check the genitalia.
Forewing: 3 to 4mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland and parkland.
Habits: The moth rests on a trunk during the day.
Foodplant: The larva mines a seed of Norway Maple. The second generation mines a petiole and then a flower bud. The July generation pupates on the wing of the seed (which falls), the May generation on the surface of the mined bud. Both generations may sometimes pupate on the tree trunk.
