Habitats: Open woodland, scrub, heathland, fens and marshes.
Habits: The moth flies in sunshine. The males sometimes swarm around Hawthorn and other shrubs while the females rest openly on the leaves.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the ground from a case made of leaf fragments. It eats dead leaves and vegetable remains, especially those of oak and birch. It pupates in the case.
