Habits: The moth flies in the afternoon. It occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in a spherical gall at a node in a thin birch twig. It is full fed by the end of the year, but may overwinter twice as a larva. The emergence hole can be found by looking for the cap of red-brown frass which is visible in March or April. It pupates in the gall.
