Similar species:

Forewing: M 6.5 to 7.5mm, F wingless

Habitats: Deciduous woodland, downland and dense scrub.

Habits:

Foodplant: The larva overwinters while small. It feeds on lichens growing on tree trunks, branches, fences and posts. These are sometimes in thick scrub. It pupates in the larval case attached to the substrate where it fed. On emergence the male pupal case is left half exposed from the larval case, while the females pupal case is retained within the larval case.
