Similar species: Males have feathered antennae. This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any similar sized species.

Forewing: 9.5 to 15mm

Habitats: Deciduous woodland.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds from galleries within fungi including Beefsteak Fungus Fistulina hepatica, Birch Polypore Fomitopsis betulina, Trametes spp., Southern Bracket Ganoderma australe or Artist's Bracket Ganoderma applanatum, plus the rotting wood supporting them. On mainland Europe it is occasionally found in a fungus on Norway Spruce. The larva is most likely to be found in these fungi during the first week of May. It pupates in the host fungus.
