Habitats: In and around houses, farm buildings, textile and wool stores.

Habits: The moth sometimes comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on wool, hair, feathers and animal carcasses. It is found in bird nests and has also been recorded from a wasp's nest feeding on detritus. It only uses a case while moulting between instars. It pupates in a tough cocoon.
